About the Center
The Center for Mindfulness and Compassion offers a variety of non-credit courses, workshops, retreats and drop-in meditation sessions for students, faculty and staff. It also trains students to become Mindful Student Leaders who model and share information about mindfulness and compassion on campus.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of intentionally bringing awareness to present moment experience without judgment and with kindness. This allows us to see more clearly and with greater understanding. Mindfulness helps us cultivate an awareness of our natural ability to concentrate and calm our minds.
Why Mindfulness and Compassion?
Mindfulness and Compassion are integrally related. One has to learn to be compassionate toward oneself, to accept the truth of one’s humanity and vulnerability in order to have the capacity to be compassionate and understanding of others.
